Artificial systematic attenuation in eta squared and some related consequences: attenuation-corrected eta and eta squared, negative values of eta, and their relation to Pearson correlation

چکیده
Abstract In general linear modeling (GLM), eta squared ( ? 2 ) is the dominant statistic for explaining power of an independent variable. This article discusses a less-studied deficiency in : its values are seriously deflated, because estimates by coefficient deflated. Numerical examples show that deflation may be as high 0.50–0.60 units correlation and 0.70–0.80 power. A simple mechanism to evaluate correct artificial attenuation proposed. Because formulae point-biserial equal, can also get negative values. While traditional give us only magnitude nonlinear association, re-considered formula gives with both direction binary cases, short-cut option offered polytomous ones. Although not relevant when interest, this valuable additional information used non-nominal variables.

Eta Squared , Partial Eta Squared , and Misreporting of Effect Size in Communication Research
Communication researchers, along with social scientists from a variety of disciplines, are increasingly recognizing the importance of reporting effect sizes to augment significance tests. Serious errors in the reporting of effect sizes, however, have appeared in recently published articles. This article calls for accurate reporting of estimates of effect size. Eta squared (η2) is the most commo...
متن کاملEta and Eta’ Physics
This talk describes the reasons why η and η decays are an interesting topic of study for both theory and experiment. The main part discusses the results of the recent calculation of η → 3π at two-loop order in ChPT. Some puzzling aspects of the results compared to earlier dispersive calculations are highlighted. I also like to remind the reader of the use of η and η decays for studying the anom...
